Explicit instruction is an immensely powerful tool in ensuring that students are learning. This session will focus on the 16 elements of explicit instruction from Anita Archer and Charles Hughes and how to use these effectively when planning for instruction. Connection will be made with the UnboundEd Planning Process (UPP) throughout. Time will be devoted to discussing Backward Planning, Gradual Release of Responsibility, embedding formative assessment, and considering the need for scaffolds / adaptations.
